Heike Benninghoff received her PhD in mathematics from the University of Regensburg, Germany, in 2015. Since 2010, she is scientific employee at the DLR Space Operations and Astronaut Training in Oberpfaffenhofen, Germany.

Since 2015, she is head of the “On-Orbit Servicing & Autonomy” team at DLR. The work of the research group focuses on the development of guidance, navigation and control systems for rendezvous, on-board computing and on-board autonomy for Earth observation applications and real-time information systems. The team operates the European Proximity Operations Simulator (EPOS) 2.0 located at DLR Oberpfaffenhofen – a robotic-based hardware-in-the-loop simulator for closed-loop test of rendezvous hardware and software systems. Her research interests comprise simulation and test, image processing, camera and LiDAR based navigation and sensor fusion.
