STEM summer school 2022

Yirui Wang, Early Stage Researcher of the Stardust Reloaded project, took part in activities of the STEM summer school 2022 held by University of Strathclyde on 13th July 2022 at University of the West of Scotland (Ayr Campus). He gave a presentation to children with additional special needs (ASN) about what are the threats of asteroid impacts, and what can we do for the asteroid impacts. The summer school was a part of Engineering equity in STEM employment project led by Dr Jane Essex and Mr Martyn Hendry. The project aimed to bring together researchers, employers and young people who are under-represented in STEM to work on STEM-related activities. Building upon a previous successful STEM scheme with pupils with ASN, the collaboration will run STEM activities designed to develop the skills that are needed in the STEM industries. By working with learners with ASN, activity leaders gave a much better understanding of how much they can achieve in STEM, if given the opportunity.
